Interview Preparation

An interview is a conversation between two parties. The organisation is learning about you, and you are learning whether the opportunity fits your direction. Preparation helps you show up calm, clear and genuinely yourself.

Understand the opportunity

  • Read the role description carefully and note the responsibilities and skills it emphasises.
  • Learn what the organisation does, who it serves and how the role contributes.
  • Think about how your experience connects to what they need.

Prepare your professional story

Be ready to explain your career so far in a few clear sentences: where you started, what you have built, and why this next step makes sense. Practise saying it out loud so it feels natural rather than rehearsed.

Use structured examples

Describe the situation, the task you were responsible for, the action you took and the result. Prepare examples that show strengths such as problem solving, teamwork, initiative and learning from setbacks.

Prepare thoughtful questions

  • What does success look like in the first six months of this role?
  • How does the team work together day to day?
  • What opportunities exist to learn and develop within the organisation?

Practical readiness

  • Confirm the time, location or video link, and the names of the people you will meet.
  • Test your technology in advance for virtual interviews.
  • Dress appropriately for the organisation's culture.
  • Have a copy of your resume and any requested documents available.

After the interview

A short, polite message of thanks reinforces your interest and professionalism. Note what went well and what you would prepare differently next time.

Preparation is not about memorising answers. It is about knowing your story well enough to have a genuine conversation.
